Sheffield Park House

Located in Sheffield Park, the grounds famously designed by Capability Brown in the 18th century, is an extraordinary gothic house simply named Sheffield Park House. Isn't this right out of a spooky 19th century novel? Fantastic! The house is privately owned but the gardens are open to the public - information HERE.

Hello:
Whilst browsing at Reggie Darling, your latest post caught our eye. Friends of ours live in Sheffield Park House which is now divided up into several apartments. The grounds are wonderful and, as an owner of an apartment, one has freedom to roam throughout the estate. On the occasions when we have visited, we should say it is imposing rather than spooky.

I know it's not quite right but I totally see Wuthering Heights. Very spooky Victorian, and the fake ramparts make the whole look.

Spooky actually is a very apt description. Why? Because Sheffield Park is the location of the excellent 1961 film called 'The Innocents' starring Deborah Kerr. Based on 'The Turn Of The Screw' by Henry James, it is either a ghost story or a tale of mental decline depending on your view. Can't say if the interior shots are genuine of course as I've never been inside - but I certainly hope so! The House is certainly seen and the gardens are well used. The film is available on DVD - see for yourself!

actually the grounds were only used for the movie The Innocents. The interior shots were not filmed in the house.
